Moving On

I've been thinking a lot lately about growing up and moving on. It's weird to watch a new school year start and see the happy excited faces of new college freshmen. The weird part is to realize how many of those faces you have seen and come to know that you will never see again. We left our undergraduate haven of Cedar City over a year ago. Since then, many of our friends and contacts have too left that haven. I found myself realizing the other day, chances are I will never see the majority of them ever again. Life goes on, people move on, and unfortunately we grow up.

I used to love the quote about friends being silver and gold. I don't think I understood it before now. I have come to know people and then seen them leave and now I've seen myself leave. It just goes to show nothing stays the same for very long.

Here in Logan, we have made some of the best friends we have ever had in our adult life. We have a hard time believing we have already lived here for a year and have less than a year left. We wish we could shrink our friends and take them with us to Washington. But we know that we cannot.

I like the social media lets you keep a surface relationship with those people you have left behind as you have moved on. But at the same time I hate that it isn't the deep relationship where you knew the everyday joys and heartaches as you once did.

Growing up isn't all its cracked up to be. I wish I could have stayed little longer. But I've moved on. One day I want to look back and realize that while moving on was essential for me, it was also essential to those friends. Our paths in life are all different. That is why we have families to take with us so we aren't truly alone.

1st Birthday

Today is the day my little girl was born. I can't believe it has been a year already. It has gone by so quickly. I can't even believe it. As I've pondered where life was this time last year I am in awe of how she has grown.

Friends at SUU posted pictures of graduation this weekend. I remembered being so so pregnant at Jared's graduation. I remember going shopping in St. George the weekend before. I went to be last night remembering how I was up the whole night that night last year having contractions wondering if this was really it. It was really it.

Austyn came into our lives on May 5th. This day will change my life for the rest of my life. It is my new favorite day. I get to remember and think back on all the memories we made that day. Jared was so patient and kind. We were both so nervous. Now look at us. We made it. One year down.

Most memories are too private for the internet. But here are a few pictures from her birthday shoot.

Happy Birthday Austyn! Mom and Dad love you to the moon and back and back again!

Logan Adventures

Well, its been a while since I last updated. Logan is growing on me. It has taken me pretty well this long living here to realize, I don't have to love it like I loved Cedar City, but I can find joy while I am here. It is only temporary.

My attitude toward Logan changed when I had to prepare a relief society lesson a few weeks ago. Oh ya, I have been serving in the relief society presidency. Anyway, my lesson was called Good Things to Come When We Have Faith in Our Bright Futures. I used the mormon message good things to come by Elder Holland and a talk by President Monson where he says the Future Is As Bright As Your Faith. It was a real eye opener for me. The ward we live in has given us many opportunities to serve. It is a ward full of apartment complexes and four houses. Yes, four houses total. So it is always changing. One thing I felt I really needed to address in this lesson was that we need to be permanent members of whatever ward we are living in, no matter how short a time we are there. This was important for me because, I keep looking at vet school in four years and living in Logan as only two years. While we will be in Logan only two years, a lot can happen in two years. Austyn will be two before we leave here to go to Pullman. That is a lot! So, I have been trying to focus on some of the good things here in Logan.

For example, we live two minutes away from Walmart. All my favorite stores are within 5 minutes of my house. Logan isn't as cold as everyone says it is. While those seem super silly, they are a big deal to me right now. I am starting to have friends, not just acquaintances. Which is making a huge difference. Also, my family is here; Jared and Austyn.

Austyn is growing like crazy. She is nine months old. She wants to walk so bad, but thankfully is still a little ways off. Why doesn't anyone  tell you how fast they grow? Oh wait, everyone tells you that. I just didn't believe them until I had one of my own!

We enjoy getting out of the apartment when Jared has a free minute to explore the area. We like driving around and seeing all the different small towns in the Cache Valley. We have also enjoyed visiting a few of the factory stores. There is beauty to be found no matter where you live. You just have to look for it.

#GoodbyeCedar

I haven't wanted to write this post. Mostly because that means it's really happening. I am really saying goodbye to Cedar City. I have loved living here. While I moved here for college 6 years ago, the adventures, experiences, and people I have met here will forever shape my life. Lets be honest, I graduated college, got married, and had a baby. All of those huge life milestones happened in Cedar City. Part of my heart will stay here with it. Even still, while I know I am saying goodbye so Jared can continue school to build a life for our little family it is hard to leave a city I love so much for the unknown.

So we've spent the summer saying goodbye to the places and people we love. Even still it is hard for me to put my feelings to words and then to write them down. Hopefully (if you make it through) this post will make sense.

As I did some of the things I love in Cedar and about Cedar for the last time I was flooded with emotion. I drove past the football stadium where I learned I have an event high from wearing a headset and standing on the track in front of a full stadium. I drove past the buildings where I took classes and learned more about myself than I did about what was being taught. I visited the Alumni House. Where I was trained in events and later got my first "big girl" job. What will I do without these people and experiences I have had that have shaped my life the way they have?

We visited our favorite restaurants. Including Milts, The Pizza Cart, and the Pastry Pub. Yes, I know I can live without their food, but sometimes I wonder ;)

The job at the elementary school that showed me I can love children and the ladies in the classroom who are some of my dearest friends.

I have been so very blessed to have felt inspired to come to SUU and Cedar City in the fall of 2008. If I only would have known then how that choice would change my life forever. I know if given the option again I would make the same choice. How do you not get emotional over something that impacted your life in more ways than you ever dreamed it would?

We made wonderful friends that we will never forget.

It's been hard to put my feelings to words. It's even harder to know I won't be calling Cedar home anymore. What a wonderful life I have been blessed with.

So as hard as it is. Here's to new adventures!

It Won't Be Like This For Long

I've turned into a real softie. This song brought me to tears today. My little girl is growing so fast. I know it won't be like this for long.

Update

Well, its been awhile since I have blogged. My blogging example Becky suggested I do an update. So here I am.

Lots has happened since I blogged last. My baby girl was born. Austyn was born on May 5th. She is a Cinco De Mayo Baby! Yep! Party!

She is now two months old and the last two months have been such a whirl wind. I can't believe how the time has passed and how Baby A is growing and growing. I wish she would slow down as every parent does. However, I know that isn't going to happen.

My everyday is consumed with playing with and caring for Baby A. She is the best baby. I have been able to practice my photography skills with her. I took her newborn pictures and her blessing pictures. Dad is a great help too.

I'm pretty much in love with this little lady. She is such a joy in my life and her happiness can make me happy in a split second. We sure love her.

Lead Me Here to This

Since I am only a few weeks away from welcoming baby girl into our home, I've been thinking a lot. Probably too much. What else is new? But thinking about all the changes that are headed our way. Not only is our family growing, but I am quitting my job, and we will be moving to Logan, Utah. So many changes. For a girl who hates change as much as I do, I am feeling super unprepared. While I was at work yesterday I was listening to likes on my YouTube channel, when this song by Darius Rucker popped up. As I sat there listening while I mindlessly worked, I realized that we are right where we are supposed to be. We may have missed lights or something along the way, but all of those moments lead us to where we are now. I appreciate these quiet moments that just hit me. I know everything is going to be ok and work out how it is supposed to because we were lead to this.

When Jared and I met at SUU, it was because a class was cancelled so we could go and make the copies we needed to start our first assignment. Neither of us were ever in that same place at the same time again the rest of that semester. I know our Heavenly Father has a plan for us. I just need to trust more and worry less. Everything will work out. I'm grateful I was reminded of that in such a small way.
